Clifton Powell Obituary

Clifton Andrew Powell

Went home to glory on August 1, 2009.
He spent his last days surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Powell, their daughter Sandra and Ray Struthers. His grandchildren Julie and Matt Plitnik and Jay and Hinni Struthers, his great-grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Plitnik and Aleksi and Isabelle Struthers. Also 4 brothers Alton, Floyd, Coy and Dale and extended family of many nieces and nephews. His brothers Wayne and Audrey and sisters Leona, Velma and Vera preceded him in death.

Born in Maude, Oklahoma on February 12, 1924. After his honorable discharge from the Army Air Corp in March 1946, He and Roberta were married on June 22, 1946. He began as an electrical contractor in 1952 and then received his general contractor's license and was owner of Enterprise Center.

Because of his dedication to Jesus Christ, Clif was able to reach many people for the Lord as he and Roberta traveled the world spreading God's word. Besides meeting presidents, senators, governors and speaking in many churches here in the United States, Clif also met with many leaders in Central and South America, along with the late
Egyptian president, Anwar Sadat and various leaders in China and around the world while serving as an International director for the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International. He was also a director of International Fellowship of Christian Businessmen. Spreading the Word of God was very important to Clif. He and Roberta have built their life upon it. His family meant everything to him. He always demonstrated to them and anyone he met, a sense of gratitude to God for all he had been given. If ever someone came to him with a problem, the first words he would say were, "let's pray about it". He was known for having a positive, intuitive outlook on life and enjoyed sharing about his journeys for the Lord.

Clif's words to ponder upon…"I wonder what would have happened to me if…some fluent talker had converted me to the theory of the eight-hour day, then convinced me that it was not fair to my fellow workers to put forth my best efforts in my work. I am glad that the eight-hour day had not been invented when I was a young man…I do not believe I could have accomplished a great deal. This country would not amount to as much as it does if the young men…had been afraid that they might earn more than they were paid.
Set it down as a fact to which there are no exceptions. We must labor for all that we have and that nothing is worth possessing or offering to others, that costs us nothing."

There will be a celebration of life at the First Baptist Church at 1959 Eureka Way, Redding, Ca. on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations, in Clif's memory, to the First Baptist Church, KVIP, Bethel church or the Rescue Mission to keep spreading God's word.

My good friend of over 30 years, Clif, is now forever at home. We have enjoyed time together at the Powell homes in Redding, Palm Springs and Florida. He was possibly the best speakers ever to speak at the Dayton FGBMFI chapter. The 40 guests who responded to the salvation invitation was the largest we ever experienced.
I will miss this humble servant of our Lord.

Our prayers will be with Roberta and the family.

Because we have known and loved Sandy and Ray since our college days, we have always felt that there was a special place in our hearts for Clif and Roberta. It is very hard to loose a father you love. We know God will be a comfort and strength, but we also know that his passing leaves a huge void in your family.

We are sorry we are unable to attend the memorial service. We know it will be a wonderful celebration of his life.

Uncle Clifton, along with Aunt Roberta, were the first outside my immediate family to take an interest in and encourage my newborn Christian faith back in 1960. I have always thought of them as my spiritual godparents. May Aunt Roberta, along with all the rest of us, take comfort and joy in knowing that this life is not all there is, but that an unbelievable reunion lies ahead for all who place their hope in Jesus Christ!
