Craig Holt, 60 years old, of Weaverville, California, died April 9, 2014 from lymphoma.

He was born in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on August 14, 1953 to Russel and Gladys Holt. Craig graduated from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in 1975 receiving a B.S. degree in physics and from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1981 receiving a Ph.D. degree in physics.

A result from his thesis is the "Holt Hamiltonian," an equation named after him that can be found in math graduate textbooks. His 20 year research career in physics included a post-doc in particle accelerator physics at Fermilab near Chicago, signal processing at TRW in Los Angles, ocean physics at Arete in Los Angeles and remote sensing at AETC in San Diego. He retired early at age 49 and came out of retirement five years later to teach AP courses in Physics, Calculus and Chemistry for six years at Trinity High School in Weaverville, California. Though he had amazing girlfriends, he never married and did not have any children.

Craig's passion from an early age was to understand the nature of phenomena and the nature of mind. In the years preceding his death, he spent his time helping others, practicing Buddhism, developing ideas in physics and engaging in a spectrum of constantly changing hobbies. He had many wonderful friends and will be remembered for his kindness.
His parents and sister, Patricia Holt, precede him in death.

In memory of Craig, a scholarship endowment fund has been established. The Craig Holt Excellence in Mathematics/Science Scholarship will be funded through this endowment.

This scholarship rewards academic excellence, visceral passion, and creative vision in science and mathematics. It is intended as a continuing endowment to support the resolve of Trinity High School's top students to make a difference for good in the world through continued study and meaningful accomplishment.
