Earlene Hamilton Obituary

Earlene Ellen Hamilton

Earlene was born on March 16, 1918 in Arriba, Colorado to Charles Earl Graves and Clara Alice Roberts, she was their fifth child. Her mother passed away just five weeks later and she was raised by her loving grandmother, Emma Boyden Graves in Denver, Colorado. Earlene left this life early on the morning of March 6, 2010 in Redding, California.

She married Butte Hamilton in Denver in 1935. They moved to San Diego in 1939 and then to Norwalk in 1946. She lived there until moving to Cottonwood in 1999.

She was a secretary for United Steelworkers Unions in Los Angeles, working until she was 71 years old.

Earlene was a godly Christian woman who read and lived her Bible daily. She hosted countless Bibles studies in her home for members of the Faith Reformed Church in Norwalk where she was a member for about 50 years. When she moved to Cottonwood, she joined the Bowman Community Church. She was a counselor in their Released Time program. Earlene loved the worship services, the Ladies Bibles studies, and especially the annual Ladies Retreat to Mount Shasta.

One of her many attributes was the ability to make people feel special. She also had a sharp wit and loved to make people laugh. She and Butte had three daughters, all of whom now live in Cottonwood; Nola (the late Eernie) Eernisse, Nancy (Mike) Davis, and Betty (Wayne) McAndrews.

She is survived by her half sister, Charlotte Bailey of Woodland, ten grandchildren. One granddaughter, Melodye Knutson, passed away in 1976. There are 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 12 at the Bowman Community Church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Lugg officiating. Burial will be at the Cottonwood Cemetery.

Memorial gifts in her honor may be made to your favorite charity.

Girls, we know how you are feeling now, and so wish we could be there to help "celebrate" her life. ( I think she would like us all to do that). Ted and I didn't know her well, but she sure was fun. Ted will never forget that she called him her "pusher", which was him pushing her wheel chair so she could be with us all the time. I can't forget her wonderful sweet smile and she made us so comfortable. I know that she is sitting there before GOD having a really good talk. We love you all and will be thinking about you tomorrow.
Love, Your cousins, Kay and Ted
