Everett Fox Obituary
Shingle Springs, CA
Everett William Fox, Jr. 91, died peacefully at home on Easter Sunday 3/27/16.
He was born to E.W. Sr. & Bertha (Sweet) on 3/24/25 in Modesto, CA.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Lynn, and sister Beatrice (Varozza).
Survived by wife of 68 yrs. Jacqueline (Varozza), daughter Donna (Jerry) Newham, sons Billy, Steven (Joy), David, EW III, brothers James (Mervlyn), Robert (Kathy), Curtis (Marilyn), sisters Vivian (Tom) Carpenter, Sally (Gary) Carr, Carol Goold, and 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great, great, grandchildren.
He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1943 and attended college at U.C. Davis. Everett started his career with CDF (Cal Fire) in 1941. It was interrupted by WWII where he served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer, USS Evans (DD 552). The Evans participated in the invasions of Saipan, Palau, Philippines, Iwo Jima, but experienced the true horror of war on May 11, 1945 at Okinawa, when his small ship was struck by 3 Japanese Kamikaze planes and 1 bomb. The Evans destroyed 23 enemy planes that day. After the war, he resumed his career with CDF and moved to Redding, CA in 1959. A private pilot, he was instrumental in the construction of the first air tanker base at Redding Airport. Retiring in 1976, as a Ranger 2, he moved to family property near Shingle Springs as a "gentleman rancher", where he lived out the rest of his life.
