Jack Greening Obituary

Jack Wesley Greening

March 11, 1919 - February 28, 2011

Jack Greening was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1919. Growing up in Long Beach and Whittier, California, he attended USC, graduating just as WWII began. He then attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, and served on a sea-going tug in the South Pacific after receiving his commission.

Jack was an entrepreneur with many interests. He raised cattle in Chino and in Cottonwood, California and developed prune, walnut and almond orchards in Shasta and Tehama counties. He was President of the Pomona Valley Water Company and helped establish the Southwest Chino Mutual Water Company. Jack was an ardent defender of water rights in California. He continued his own father's support of the Casa Colina Rehabilitation Center through the years, and Jack and his wife have also contributed generously to education.

Jack loved deep sea fishing, boating and flying his own airplane, a Navion and later a Cessna 310. He and his wife, June, made many boat and plane excursions to Mexico through the late 1940's and 1950's and later navigated the Inland Passage to Alaskan waters annually for over 15 years. Jack was an adventurer, traveling with his wife around the world, making long lasting friendships wherever they went.

Jack and June enjoyed 71 years of a very happy marriage.
He is survived by his wife, June Greening, and sons Jack (Jay) Greening Jr., Jeffrey Greening and daughter, Paula Heye, and four grandchildren

Mrs. Greening, Jeff and family

Dear June, Paula and family,
We were so saddened to hear of your loss. We read about it in Sunday's paper and were so surprised. There are no words in times like these, but to let you know we are thinking of you and your family and we are praying for Jesus Christ to comfort you and give you His supernatural peace, which only comes from Him. We are so grateful for your kindness to our dear friends, Jose and Lupe that were with you for so many years. They loved you dearly and appreciated all the time they spend caring for your home in Cottonwood. You both have touched many lives and we know that God will be with you.
With deepest sympathy,
Art and Carmen Shoffner

June, Jay, Jeff and Paula,
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I have such fond memories of you all and the ranch in Cottonwood. Jack made it possible for me to "grow up" there on weekends. He was one of my first employers; cutting all those berry vines between the river and the pool. What a slave driver!!
Today my passion is for declaring the supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ in both life and death. I'll pray that Christ comforts you with Himself and His hope in Jack's passing.
Your friend,
