James Malcolm Obituary

James William Malcolm

REDDING, CA

Jan. 22, 1930 - Dec. 3, 2015

James "Jim" Malcolm was born in Syracuse, NY in 1930. In 1953, he married Catherine M. Lehman. They had two children: Steven W. Malcolm, of Shasta Lake City; and Lisa M. Prettyman, of Sacramento.

Jim enlisted in the military, joining the United States Marine Corps, on December 29, 1952. Right away they had Jim playing in the military band, as their piano player. Jim loved music, he also was an accomplished saxophone player, and played in a band. After many years of being away from the saxophone, Jim decided to take music lessons from Jeff, at the Music Connections, and he continued those lessons up until the past few months.

Jim loved flying airplanes, and traveling. He owned a private Porterfield CP65, and then a Cessna 170B. He and his second wife, Beverly, traveled around Alaska in their motor home. Also they worked and lived in Australia for many years.

Jim worked as a landscape architect, and he designed the American River Parkway near Sacramento, CA. The beautiful parkway has won many awards for its environmental preservation in an urban setting.

A service will be held at the Veteran's Cemetery in Igo, CA, on January 22nd at 12:30pm.
