Joel Ogle of Redding, California, passed from this life to his heavenly home on April 23, 2012, while visiting his brothers and family in Monroe, Louisiana. Joel was born on February 19, 1937, in Tennessee, to parent Raymond and Lovie Ogle. During his childhood he lived in many states as his father was a minister and evangelist. In his teen years he traveled with his older brother Ray, also ministering in music and preaching.

He married Sylvia (Nyquist) in December of 1954, in Indio, California. It is there where later their two daughters were born and raised through their high school years. Joel worked for many years, and retired from, the United States Postal Service. Later, when the family moved to Costa Mesa, California, Joel worked part-time for the County of Orange as a computer technician.

In 1933, he and Sylvia made their final move to Redding, California, joining one daughter and her family. The second daughter and family would soon follow. He has spent the last many years enjoying his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as caring for his late wife of 57 years, Sylvia, who passed away in June of 2011. Joel has always been faithful and active in ministry work. His concerns included missions and youth ministries. Beside monetary support, he gathered and delivered vans full of donated clothing and household goods to missionaries in Mexico. "Grandpa Jay" was a trooper and accompanied the youth on missions trips and other youth events, sometimes cooking and always chaperoning and driving.

Joel leaves behind two brothers and a sister; two daughters: Darlene Davis (husband David) and Clarice Ann Kerns (husband Frank); four grandchildren: Jeff Davis, Jennifer Davis, Nathan Kerns (wife Genger), and Kristen Kerns; two great-grandchildren: Raquel Kerns and Gabriel Kerns. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all.
