John Barker Obituary

John Barker Jr.

John Barker Jr. died peacefully the evening of
April 1, 2010 surrounded by family.
John was born January 29, 1922 in
Wynne, Arkansas to
John Hicks Barker and Rosa (Holmes) Barker.

John married the love of his life, Regina Nadine Tedford, on June 27, 1942.
They were married for 63 years, until 'Jean's' death May 29, 2008.

John served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Campaign. When John received his discharge papers from the Army, he and Jean moved to California and started a family. John worked for Firestone and Good Year Tire Co. for many years in Lancaster, CA. The family relocated to northern CA in 1963 and purchases a small grocery business in Cottonwood, CA. After closing his store, John was a branch manager for Tri Counties bank until his retirement.

The greatest triumph of John and Jean's life together was giving their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ while attending Little Country Church of Redding. John served as an elder for many years and they both enjoyed hosting functions and Bible studies in their home. Amongst the many things they enjoyed doing together; remodeling, gardening, entertaining, they enjoyed each other. Their marriage was a testimony of love to family and friends.

John leaves behind his three sons, Richard Gregory Barker (wife Dolores) of Redding, CA, John Timothy Barker (wife Linda) of Susanville, CA, and Jon Scott Barker (wife Berenice) of Janesville, CA.

John was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He will be missed beyond words, but we rejoice in our hearts in his salvation.

Dear Barker Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I will always be grateful for knowing both John and Jean. John was manager of Shasta County Bank (now Tri-Counties) in Cottonwood when I went to work there in 1979. He was such a wonderful person, and a great boss who always treated his employee's with care and respect, and was devoted to his community. I will always remember John and Jean and the wonderful memories of many bank celebrations in their beautiful home where they made you feel like family. May the memories of your father's love be with you and comfort you at this time. My thoughts and prayer's are with you and your family.

Dear Barker family, It is with great sadness that I read about John's death. I served as an elder with John at Risen King Community Church for many years. I will always remember his great compassion and love for all. That love was demonstrated to me and my family many times. He was a man of great wisdom as well and his life of service to both Little Country and to Risen King is a legacy few men are able to leave. My wife Grethe and I both now live in Seattle where we pastor a church up here. The years spent with John as an elder enriched my work as a pastor as well. Again, I am so sorry for your loss of a father and grandfather and a great man of God.

I am so sorry for your loss. John was a good man as you know. I knew him when I worked at Tri-Counties Bank in Cottonwood, then called Shasta Bank. He always had a nice greeting to all and a smile on his face that made you want to come to work.
