Kelly Moravec Obituary

Kelly Moravec

ANDERSON - Kelly Michael Paul Moravec. April 14, 1987 – March 6, 2007. Kelly came to earth as a "prayed for gift from God" on a very beautiful spring day, just short of 20 years ago. He left us to go back home with his Lord in Heaven, again, on a very beautiful spring day. Kelly passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after an almost 4 year long and very courageous battle with pediatric bone cancer.

The name Kelly means "brave warrior" and he lived up to his name. Kelly graduated with Honors from West Valley High School in 2005. He was given numerous awards and scholarships at graduation including the honor of being selected as one of The American Cancer Society's Young Ambassadors for California. Kelly was able to achieve a portion of his dream by completing one year of college. A competitive swimmer, soccer player, rock climber and avid backpacker into the Trinity Alps and Yolla Bolly Wilderness areas, Kelly also enjoyed snowboarding, 4 wheelers, go carts, hunting squirrels, paintball, running in the waves at any ocean beach and anything that allowed him to play in the dirt or mud. Kelly never let the physical disabilities that came because of cancer stop him from continuing his outdoor activities, adding even more adventures to his repertoire such as hang gliding, adaptive skiing and sky diving. He became a master of strange humor and quick wit, teaching us all how to deal with adversity by facing it in a very positive, unique and healthy way.

Kelly is survived by his father Rex Michael Moravec and mother Rebekah Moravec, as well as his sister Jami Carlton-Moravec, brother
Timothy Moravec, future brother in law Alex Lozoya, Grandparents Rex Leslie and Mildred Moravec, all of Anderson, CA; Grandparents Ken and Wilma Svenson of Grass Valley, CA; and many beloved Aunts, Uncles and cousins from all over the United States; friends and admirers from all over the earth.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Sat. March 17, 2007 at Neighborhood Church of Redding, 777 Loma Vista Drive.
Prelude music and pictures will be played from 9:30 AM onward. Kelly gave adamant instructions he called "RULES FOR MY FUNERAL" and said these must be upheld and had to be placed in all announcements or told to people before they came so "they can prepare". We can't help but laugh and cry at the same time because of what he wrote and how much he wants HIS kind of humor, his way of "dealing" to continue to be part of himself even after his death. This is a direct excerpt quote: "Rule #1. No one is allowed to wear black. If a person has black covering 60% or more of their body, they will be asked to sit in a special section of seating, with signs clearly stating 'Losers who wear black to funerals sit here.' Wear something colorful, black is just so boring. The same goes with a suit of any kind, unless it's a neon green, or baby blue suit, or some other wild color. Wear something that's comfortable." (Side note from us: Kelly's favorite colors to wear were brown, khaki/olive green or navy blue.) Rule #2. Anybody wearing a tie will be asked to remove the tie, or not be allowed to enter the building. Remember, you can't spell the word funeral without FUN! <-----must be quoted at my funeral." End direct quote. Following the Memorial Service there will be a gathering from 1 - 4 pm at the Redding Distributing Co., 6450 Lockheed Drive directly off of Knighton Rd.

This "party" will be a Benefit Music Jam Fundraiser, the beginning of a scholarship fund that Kelly and his mother planned together over the last six months. At Kelly's specific request, he asks you to please not send flowers but instead to consider giving a donation towards this fund and thereby help to encourage students dealing with serious medical conditions to complete High School and continue on with their college educations.

Dear Becky and family, we were so distressed to hear of Kelly's passing on the day after Alice's own. Heaven is much richer now having gained two such indescribable young people. I know the loss you feel, somehow with God's help we will all get through it. You are in my prayers for sunnier days up ahead and lots of smiles among the tears. Alice would not talk about her wishes so it is nice you could plan Kelly’s celebration without so much guesswork! Love, Donna Araiza

Rex & Rebekah,
What a privilege it was to work with Kelly throughout his junior year. I was the one who came away blessed, after meeting with Kelly and doing school in your home. His positive spirit, his confidence in the future, and his creativity in his work always inspired me. It truly was an honor and complete joy to have known Kelly! Our thoughts and prayers support you at this time.

Rex, Rebekah, and family..my heart and prayers go out to you and your whole family. I can't say I know the feeling of losing a child but can only imagine the pain. It is obvious though from Kelly's ideas for his funeral that he was someone with a great sense humor and pride! Kelly seems like he was a great son & person and all I can think of is God needed him more than everyone here on Earth did. I am so sorry for your loss.

Rex,Becky, and family, I am so sorry for the loss you are feeling. We mustn't think of Kelly and those that have gone on before us as the loved ones that we lost, but instead, as the loved ones that will watch over us until we meet again. Today on the 1 year anniversary of our son moving on to be with the Lord I know it means I am one year closer to meeting him again.

I do not even know this precious young gentleman and he touched my heart all the way out here in Saco, Maine. He has inspied me today just reading about his life, his rules, his humor and quick wit.
I have an 18 year old and I will tell him about Kelly so he too can learn that there are very fine young adults to look up to even in their passing.
God is obviously with you all as I can sence tremendous courage.
Continued blessings to your entire family and extended family.
God Blessed you the day he came and left, what a priveldge to sit beside his King at the throne.
