Norman Stamm Obituary

Norman Paul Stamm

1946 - 2013

Norman Stamm, 67, of Citrus Heights, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013.

He was born to the late Harry L. and Mary Jeanne Stamm, July 25, 1946, in Lindsay, Calif. Norm graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1964 and earned his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He served as an Army private from 1966-68 and was a helicopter door gunner in Vietnam, where he survived several crashes on combat missions and earned the Air Medal.

He married Shirley Montgomery in 1977 and shortly thereafter they moved to Redding, before relocating to Folsom in 1983. They lived in Redding twice more, once in the 1980s and again in recent years.

Norm worked for Farmers Insurance for 15 years, first as an agent and later as a district manager. In addition to other sales positions, he was an entrepreneur and worked for two years as a commercial truck driver.

Norm was passionate about cars, and first began building engines and racing as a high school student. More recently he achieved a lifelong dream when he bought and restored a 1957 Chevy Bel Air two-door hardtop. He also loved to fly and owned a Cessna taildragger. While living with his family in the North State, he enjoyed camping, fishing and house boating on Lake Shasta. Norm loved anywhere with hot temperatures, and particularly enjoyed trips with Shirley to Hawaii.

Norm is survived by his wife Shirley and three children: Eric Stamm and wife Lisa of Encinitas; Michelle Wagner of Fair Oaks; and Kristen Wagner Lyons and husband Silas of Redding.

He also is survived by sister-in-law Andrea Stamm of Vista and grandchildren Breeana, Allisyn, Blake, Sarah, Kevin and Emerson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don.

A private interment will be held at Northern California Veterans Cemetery.

At Norm's request, the family is not planning a memorial service.

I am so sorry to hear of Norm's passing. I remember him as such a vibrant and robust fella, towering above me and his adorable wife Shirley. He had a great laugh and always a huge smile on that handsome face. I grieve with you on this loss and my deepest prayers are with all of you. Please call me if there is anything I can do.
