Patsy Childs Obituary

Patsy Childs

Patsy Jean (Masters) Childs,

74. Beloved mother, grandmother, daughter and sister passed away peacefully with her loving daughter by her side on June 4, 2015.

Patsy was born November 25, 1940 in Mexico, MO to Otis Woodrow Masters and Opal Margene Masters. When Patsy was just a toddler World War II took the Masters family to the San Francisco Bay Area where Otis worked as a machinist supporting the war effort. Along with her younger siblings Allen and Linda, Patsy lived out her youth in the San Francisco Bay Area where she graduated from San Mateo High School in 1959. Shortly thereafter she met a young Marine named Bruce Reid who had a dream to raise cattle. They married in October of 1959; together they took up cattle ranching in Yreka, CA with good friends Tommy and June O'Hare and Doug and Peggy Milton. Bruce and Patsy had two children together; daughter Kathleen and son Brian.

Many of her most memorable years were spent raising her two children in Burney, CA where she met many lifelong friends. Burney was a place her father loved to visit to hunt and fish during Patsy's childhood. Those memories and her brother, Allen Masters who lived in Hat Creek, beckoned Patsy to raise her children there. During this time she met and married Max Childs. Patsy always had an open door to her home where a person could come and feel welcome. With a smile on her face and laughter in her heart she made all feel at home. Her home was a warm and safe place for Kathleen, Brian and their friends to hang out and enjoy being young.

Patsy had an adventurous spirit and a feistiness that took her on many travels. She would often throw caution to the wind and head out for a new destination where she would meet new and interesting people along the way. They all touched her life in some way and she treasured those times and those people.

Patsy spent her later years in the Gem State where she loved the mountains and wide-open spaces of Idaho. She shared time among Hailey, Twin Falls, Hazelton, and American Falls, calling each home for a time. Patsy lived every day of her life with a passion for adventure and an unbreakable spirit, never one to say "I can't". Undaunted and without fear she was an inspiration and a breath of life to those around her, even up to the very last!

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the wonderful people of Edgewood Spring Creek Manor in American Falls for the outstanding care and friendship they provided over the last year during Patsy's stay. Patsy is survived by sister Linda Rognier of Redding, CA; daughter Kathleen Ulrich of American Falls, ID; son Brian Reid of Denver, CO; and grandchildren Paige Rogers, Jared Reid, Jourden Reid, and Zach Reid.
