I am so sorry to learn of the loss of a fascinating teacher, and so grateful to have studied with him. Mr. Dalrymple provided my first genuine introduction to academia, and did so with unforgettable wit and wisdom. His light still shines.

Dear Jennifer and Rich - I recently learned of your father's passing and am very saddened by it. Some people should live forever. He will be with many of us in our hearts for a very long time. I knew him as a teacher, as a friend, and as a mentor. His love of J.R.R. Tolkien made an everlasting impression on me and I can see him even now standing before us in his long, black commencement gown with a tall Gandalf hat, reading passages from the Lord of the Rings to us in our classroom. This one seems to fit just now ....
"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."
We have all lost a special man. My condolences to you and your families.

Dear family,
I played football at East High for 3 years with Dick. What great time and memories ! He had the biggest cleats on the team. No one was more enthusiastic than Dick. I will long cherish my memories of him.

In 1984 Mr.Dalrymple showed me how to love learning. I've saved everything I wrote for him and when I reread it all I remember him and feel grateful that he was there when I needed to find my passion.

What a great teacher. We connect over our travels in the 4 corners area. He would also talk about his grandchild that was on campus at the lab school. He was a very interesting man and I enjoyed being in his class. Know that he was loved by many.

Jennifer and Rich - Your father was a truly unique, loving and generous man. Kari, the boys and I will miss him dearly. We considered him, not only a great friend, but an extension of our family. I'll miss my discussions with him about his children, grandchildren, dogs, and University of Utah athletics. His love for you all was certainly second to nothing. He was a great story-teller, and had a memory like a steel trap. He'd often share Utes sports history with me, recalling names and positions from as early as the Forties and Fifties. I'd like to think he's sitting knee-to-knee with Coach Rick Majerus right now talking Utes basketball. Rich, as we called him, will forever be in our hearts. Our condolences go out to you and your families.

I had Mr. Dalrymple for English at Shasta College in 1984 I think it was. He was the classic "Mr. Chips" English Teacher. He was a very interesting man and I am glad I visited here today so that I could wish Mr. Dalrymple HAPPY TRAILS and I hope that you have peace in a restful slumber. Good Teachers never die, they live on in the hearts and minds of their students.

It has been a long time since English 1B at Shasta College and I am thankful that the instructor was Mr. Dalrymple, not because I learned a great deal as much as I met a very individual and unique person. Thank you, Mr. Dalrymple, for being one of those kind of people you never forget.

I will always remember him for his love and devotion to his dogs. He treated them like children/family. I worked at Hilltop Vet for many years and Dick was a regular. He was always enlightening and pleasure to talk with. I loved the way he would quote literature as he spoke to you. I knew when I met him that he was quite character and I always enjoyed our conversations. What a good man. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

I will always love and admire Dick as a teacher, mentor, and friend. He opened the doors of literature and adventure and beauty. He also helped me get the job at B. Dalton's Bookseller where I happily worked for years. He is in my heart forever.

Dear Family of Mr. Dalryrmple, He was an outstanding teacher of the humanities at Shasta College. I so remember that crazy mustache. He inspired me to be a better person. I'm sorry for your loss. He will not be forgotten by many, many students.
