Richard Redwine Obituary

Richard Donald Redwine

On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, Richard Donald Redwine passed away at the age of 87 with his daughter by his side. Richard was born on June 7, 1932 in Highfill, Arkansas to Claude Marcellus and Willie Jane (Brown) Redwine. During the Oklahoma Dust Bowl in the 1930's they migrated to Central California to pick cotton. Raised poor and 1 of 12 children, Richard had a strong work ethic. With no more than an 8th grade education, he spent much of his free time as a child in the library where he taught himself. He eventually retired from the Bank of Rio Vista in California in the late 1990's. Richard and his wife raised 9 children and 4 of his grandchildren. He had a passion for farming, history and gardening. His yard was charming and lush and the pride of his neighborhood. He could always be seen in the evenings watering his flowers while smoking a sweet cherry scented pipe. Richard was known to give, even when he didn't have enough to give. He was an early riser who had a hard time sitting still. He is survived by 7 siblings, 7 children, 3 of whom are Laura Redwine Cuenca of Palo Cedro, California; Lynda Redwine and Robert Redwine both of Boise, Idaho, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by 2 children, Richard Redwine Jr. and Mary Lynn Redwine. A memorial service is planned for the spring of 2020.
