Robert W. Hughes, long time Mt. Shasta Psychologist and current Executive Director of Remi Vista, Inc., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Mt. Shasta. He was 52.
Robert was born August 14, 1964 in Arcadia to Paul and Sharon Hughes. He was raised in the Newport Beach area and attended Corona Del Mar High School, Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Antioch University and Fuller Seminary in Pasadena. He met Noel, his soon-to-be wife, at Westmont and they began their life together there. After his studies were complete in 1997, the family settled in Mt. Shasta.
He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Mt. Shasta, Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Simpson University in Redding, co-founder of Siskiyou Fryaking Association, and a current commissioner for First Five Siskiyou.
Robert had a huge impact on the social services community of the North State through his work at Remi Vista. He was known and highly respected within the counseling community and inspired many to choose a career in social and therapeutic services. He was named Professor of the Year more than once by his students at Simpson University. The work he did in helping families and children toward healthier lives will be remembered and lived out by many in our area.
In addition to his wife, Noel, of Mt. Shasta, Robert is survived by his daughter, Emily Limkeman and her husband, Steve, of Jeju Island, South Korea; his daughter, Alyssa Rickert and her husband, John, of Goleta; his son, Sean Hughes and his fiancé, Emily Taylor of Goleta; his mother and step-father, Sharon and Gary Rogers of Redding; his father, Paul Curtiss Hughes, of Mt. Shasta; his sister, Jennifer Adnams of San Juan Capistrano; his brother, Jonathan Hughes also of San Juan Capistrano, and two beautiful granddaughters, Abigail and Lily.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church of Mt. Shasta. Burial will be private in the Mt. Shasta Memorial Park. On-line condolences may be left at www.girdnerfuneralchapel.com. Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka is assisting the family. Gifts in honor of Robert can be made to Remi Vista, Inc. of Redding or to Simpson University where the family would like to establish a scholarship fund in his memory.

Robert was one of the best people I have ever known. The joy of the LORD shone through him magnificently as he cared for others and made everyone feel welcomed and valued. He was an amazing boss, mentor, friend and brother in the LORD. I will always remember his laughter, wisdom, and kindness. Not to mention the fun we had playing Pokemon Go or attempting to golf. I look forward to seeing him in heaven and worshiping with him at the throne of Jesus. I think Robert has completed one of his favorite verses: 2 Corinthians 3:18 "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the LORD's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the LORD, who is the Spirit." May you rejoice in glory my friend.

Professor Hughes was one of my teachers in the Aspire Program at Simpson University. I have often thought of him, and was connected to him through Linkedin. Definitely one of the very best teachers I have ever had. He was thoughtful, kind and so knowledgeable. I will never forget him. My condolences to him family. Gone too soon, with so much to offer the world.
