Albert Marcus was born at home in Holland Township to Frank and Mattie (Ledeboer) Marcus. He was the youngest of 12 children. Albert had a seventh-grade formal education but was known to be able to fix anything. He served in the United States Army in 1951-1952 on deployment to Korea as a mechanic, applying those skills in a career on his return. He married Carol Quist on February 6, 1961, and together they built a life in Roseland and had six children.
His family remembers fondly enjoying watching Saturday morning cartoons and the stashes of candy he was always willing to share. He was a member of Roseland Reformed Church and made sure that his family was in church every Sunday. He was known as a prankster, champion hugger, family man, and good friend and neighbor. When he blew out neighbors' driveways in the winter, the only way he would accept pay was in donuts and popcorn balls. He retired from Duininck Brothers after 42 years of service. He spent the last years of his life at Garnette Gardens in Redwood Falls and made many friends there. Albert leaves behind a legacy of strong, independent, faithful, and community-minded family, mentees, and friends he impacted on his journey.
He is survived by his children: Deb (Duane) Baalson of Sacred Heart; Al "Ray" (Colleen) Marcus of Redwood Falls; Pat Keller (David DeNoble) of Hoffman; Carol Jae Marcus of Redwood Falls; his grandchildren: Charles Baalson (Nicole Wubker) of Maplewood; Sarah Baalson of Bloomington; Shauna Rayl (Paul Anderson) of Springfield; James "Bob" Tepfer of Roseland; Annie Schmidt of Belgrade; Matthew Marcus of Hastings; Autumn Marcus of Redwood Falls; Alyssa Marcus of Como Park; Dacotah (Jacie) Keller of Devils Lake, N.D.; Tanner (Stephanie) Keller of Bakersfield, Calif.; Tisha Keller (Jamin Hanson) of Alexandria; Clarissa Marcus of Redwood Falls; his great-grandchildren: Danica Kent, Wyatt Rayl, Nathaniel Keller, Addison and Khloe Galstad, Grace Bailey, and Jacobi Hanson; and his siblings Melvin Marcus of Prinsburg and Henrietta Swart of Prinsburg.
