Billy Garris Obituary
GRIFTON - Billy Garris, 90, told Magdaline, his wife of 61 years, "I'll meet you on the other side of Jordan." With that he went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1:30 PM in Evergreen Memorial Estates.
Billy is survived by his wife, the former Magdaline Craft; his son, Roddy Garris and wife, Melonia; grandson, Derek Garris; and granddaughter, Megan Garris and her soon to be husband, Chris Klobke.
Billy was the son of Bonnie Heber Garris and Daisy Wilson Garris. He had 10 brothers and sisters. Walter, Linwood, Agnes, George, Bonnie, Jake, Dorothy, and infant sister, Mary Louise are all deceased. Surviving are brother, Bobby Garris of Grifton and sister, Hazel Hoban of Charleston, SC and lots of nieces and nephews.
Billy worked at DuPont for 30 and 1/2 years and Kinston Neuse Corp for 15 years. He loved drag racing and along with his brother, Bobby, built and raced the Red Baron. He loved all sports. He played softball at the age of 75 with the Golden Gramps and won a state championship.
Billy loved his Lord, his church, Grifton Free Will Baptist, his family, his church family, and all of his friends.
Your battle is over brave warrior. You fought the good fight. Now rest easy safely in the arms of Jesus.

I am truly sad to just be finding this out. I am named after my daddy's uncles Billy and Bobby Jean. I am Billie Jean Hoover Smith a niece of Billy Garris and Magdaline! I love you and have such wonderful childhood memories of coming to your house Aunt Magdaline and sitting in the breakfast nook that used to be in your home (if my memory serves me right) I still have the Mother Goose Book of Nursery Rhymes given to me as an infant with a note signed from you. I have wonderful memories of sweet gifts that I loved! I just love the LOVING MEMORIES I STILL HAVE at 56. Again, I am so sorry of the lack of knowledge of his death. I can still remember the smell of Uncle Billy and his auto shop! My daddy loved him like a brother ..the reason I am named Billie Jean!! WE know he is dancing on the streets of gold and on the banks of Jordan! He is with I know my granny and my daddy and many more! Praise Jesus for my family and love of Christ carried through in their lives!!!
