Daniel Murphy Obituary

Daniel Patrick Murphy
GREENVILLE - Daniel Patrick Murphy, age 85, peacefully left his earthly body on Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family in Greenville NC.
Dan was the son of the late Carl Eugene Murphy and Eva Bernice Viles.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Brookdale on Dickinson Avenue in the Claire Bridge Dementia Unit for the loving care given to Dan over the last year. Also, a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice of Greenville for the loving care and comfort given to Dan, his daughter and niece in Dan's final days, especially, Jenny. Every one of you made it easier to get through this difficult time. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Mr. Murphy was in the US Navy, and he was very proud to have served his country. He especially loved to share the stories with family and friends of the days on the Kennedy Yacht. Dan spent the majority of his career being a culinary Chef. He worked at Vidant Hospital for approximately 10 years, and that is where he met his wife Patricia, who survives. He also managed Meals on Wheels in Greenville. Dan enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time and boating at Lake Gaston, playing cards (he was the Skipbo King), telling stories about his adventurous life, he was the master of many faces, he had a kind heart toward others, and he was a true southern gentleman when it came to manners, even though he was not a southerner. Dan was born and raised in Ohio.
In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his daughter, Danielle Lilley of Ayden, NC; grandsons, Joshua Lilley (Jenny) and Austin Lilley (Cindy) of Ayden, NC; great-grandchildren, Adam, Adrian and Lydia Lilley of Ayden, NC; brother, David Murphy of Ohio; nieces, Lynn Davis (Al) and Willow of Grifton, NC.
Dan chose not to have a public visitation and service. The family will privately celebrate his life by reflecting on the many precious memories he has left behind. We appreciate the cards, phone calls, prayers, and concerns during his declining health over the last several years. Your kindness will never be forgotten. We ask that you consider donations to Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA); a dementia research/organization of your choice; or to Meals on Wheels of Greenville. Flowers are welcomed. Thank you.
