Guy Baxter Obituary
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Martin Baxter; two children, Chris Baxter Kelly of Ayden, and Marsha Baxter Hargette Shelton of Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Ryan, Owen and Erin Baxter, and Liam and Parker Hargette; brother, Ted Baxter and wife Claire of Sutherland, Va.; sister, Ruth Ann Harkrader and husband John of Buxton; mother-in-law, Mary Anna Martin; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to some people who made Guy's fight against cancer more manageable. Thank you to the staff of the Hope Lodge for providing them a home away from home; The nurses and staff on 1 South at Vidant Medical Center; Mary Judy with Dare County Hospice; and his physicians, especially Dr. Matt Collins. They thank you for your compassion and call to care. To Rosiland Buck, to whom they could never fully express their deepest gratitude, you became a member of their family and they are eternally grateful for the love and support you gave. To all of their friends and family, who stepped in to lend a hand and an ear, they thank and love you all. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to the American Cancer Society McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge-Greenville, 930 A Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834 or to North Carolina Watermen United, PO Box 536 Hatteras, NC 27943. Kathy, Chris, & Marsha..what can I say..Meeting Guy and you all was 1 of the best things in our lives! You gave Jerry and me unconditional love and friendship and helped him live a life that he was so cheated of.Jerry and guy both tried to fulfill their life of fishing, and Kathy, you are so right-they are now together in heaven just a fishing away to their heart's content! I love the relationship you all had together as a family all these years and were a role model to us. We will all get through this and be there for each other and be friends for ever..love you all so very much.

Kathy, I was so sorry to hear about Guy. My heart breaks for your loss. I know there aren't any right words to make the hurt go away, or even lessen the hurt but my thoughts & prayers are with you & your family, as they have been, for a while now. You know, we've done a lot of living since those days of playing with our dolls, on a blanket, in the yard, but nobody showed us how to prepare for times like this. Captain Guy Baxter was a great and generous man. Captain Baxter loved fishing the ocean and I was fortunate to learn from him. Some of my greatest memories are the time I spent with the Baxter family in Frisco. I think of him often when I am fishing and I know that his legacy will last through his family. Kathy, I am so sorry to hear of Guy's passing. I grew up with Guy in Dinwiddie County, VA; he lived across the road from us. He was my brother's good friend, but they used to allow me to play baseball and football with the boys on occasion. It has been so nice re-connecting with him after all these years on Facebook.
