Mavis Estelle Davenport Whitaker
July 21, 1936 - May 30, 2013
WILLIAMSTON Mavis Estelle Davenport Whitaker died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Martin General Hospital, Williamston.
She was born to John David Davenport and Almeta Oakley Davenport in Martin County. On March 4, 1953, she was married to Charlie Daniel Peter Whitaker and resided on Leggett Mill Road in Martin County during their marriage. She was loved and will be missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by a daughter; Janice Whitaker Ayers of McCaskey Road, Williamston, and a son, Kenneth Earl Whitaker and his wife, Jeanette, of Leggett Mill Road, Williamston; also surviving are six grandchildren, one step-grandchild and one great-stepchild. Her youngest daughter, Bertha Whitaker Lovegreen preceded her mother s in death Dec. 26, 2012. Survivors also include two sisters Nancy Harrison of Grimesland and Diane Davis of Greenville. Preceded in death were two brothers; Bobby and David Davenport, both of Maryland, and one sister, Louraye Cherry of Grimesland.
Biggs Funeral Home of Williamston will be handling arrangements. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 3, 2013, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home, and a graveside service will be held at Martin Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at 2 p.m.
