Natalia Borisova Obituary

Natalia A. Borisova
Beloved mother, artist and teacher, died unexpectedly in her home on February 18, 2013. Natasha is survived by her son, Andrew, daughter-in-law, Dana, stepchildren Lana and Oleg, niece Elaine and first cousins Gene and Kyrill (Kika). She was well-known throughout the Russian and artistic communities of San Francisco and will be sorely missed.
Natasha was born on 12 February 1941 in Belgrade, Serbia (Yugoslavia) to White Russian émigrés Andrei and Antonina Borisov. Toward the end of WWII the family traveled to Salzburg, Austria and eventually came to the United States, settling in San Francisco in 1950 after a sojourn in southern California.
She began dancing at the age of 4 in Europe, but it was in America that her life-long love of Russian character dance began. She has performed with many dance troupes both large and small. Most recently, she was the founder and director of the Russian folk dance group The Russian Collection. Natasha also taught dance, having her own school ("Ballet Russe") in San Francisco.
There will be a requiem service on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:30 PM and a funeral service on Wednesday, February 27 at 10:00 AM. Both services will be held held at the Holy Virgin Cathedral, 6210 Geary Blvd., San Francisco. Interment will follow the funeral service at the Serbian Cemetery, 1801 Hillside Blvd., Colma. In lieu of flowers, we request that you honor her memory by donating to the animal welfare organization of your choice.

My Dearest Auntie Natalia,
I will always remember your beauty & grace; how you appeared to float on air when dancing.
And I will remember your loving kindness when we last spoke in S.F. at Ballet Russe.
Bless you & your family.

Dear Loved Ones of Natalia Borisova,
Could you please post information at the Ballet Russe Dance Studio to inform parents & students of her death and funeral services?
I was waiting to have my Smog Test done at the business next door and observed a very bewildered parent trying to figure out if her daughter's class was going to take place. She had tried telephoning to no avail. I remembered reading the obituary and informed her of Mrs. Borisova's death. She was very shocked and dismayed.
I am sorry for your loss.
Kind Regards,
A Richmond District Neighbor

To Natasha's Loved Ones:

Even though we were miles apart, Natasha and I were very close. Our friendship was a treasure that in a sense only another artist could understand and appreciate. She will be truly missed and always loved.

Although we say good-bye for now to a devoted artist, we must always celebrate her life with joy and the knowledge that now that she's home, her spirit dances without effort and endlessly.

I am sure she is smiling down on us and sending us a message that: "All is well and I love you all very much, now and always."

Sincerely,

Annamarie Zilba

We were two little Russian girls who loved to dance and met in junior high. We danced ballet together as girls. I was in her troupe that went to Hollywood in 1966 for The Party. Years later as a teacher, I invited her Russian dance group to come to Presidio Middle School as part of Young Audience. She was strong, vibrant, exuberant and a lovely dancer and person. She served the Russian Community of San Francisco with devotion by teaching others about our culture. She will be missed.

I will always remember her welcoming smile and the sense of community she gave to all her students. The stage she dances on now is made of stars.
