Warren Maxon Obituary
Mr. Warren Howard Maxon, 87, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 following a short illness. A graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the mausoleum at Homestead Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Maxon, a native of Webster City, Iowa, graduated from Lincoln High School. He attended Iowa State University on a basketball scholarship and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi honor society. In 1940 he began his career as a chemical engineer with Union Carbide, Niagra Falls, N.Y. After 37 years of service he retired and had lived in Greenville for the past 30 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville and the Pitt Golden K Kiwanis Club. For a number of years, Mr. Maxon delivered Meals on Wheels and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly L. Maxon; sons, John M. "Mick" Maxon and wife, Carol, of Greenville and Warren H. "Joe" Maxon II and wife, Brenda, of Denver, N.C.; daughters, Sue Ann Ross of Lewiston, N.Y. and Mary Lu Harlow and husband, Barry, of Oklahoma City; sister, Helen Parrish and husband, Joe, of Webster City, Iowa; grandchildren, Michelle M. Brown and husband, Mark, of Raleigh, Michael S. Maxon and wife, Tanya, of Columbia, S.C., Nicole Eyrl Maxon of Greenville, Kelly Ross Kantz and husband, William, of St. Croix, U.S.Virgin Islands, Lynn C. Ross of Arlington, Va., LaVon Leigh Phillips and husband, Lance, of Edmond, Okla., Barry R. Harlow II and wife, Mary, of Minneapolis, David L. Harlow and wife, Krystal of Oklahoma City, Warren H. "Joey" Maxon III and wife, Elizabeth, of Arizona, Erin Elisabeth Maxon of Charlotte and Sarah Lindsay Maxon of Charleston, S.C.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
