Wayne Stokes Obituary

Wayne Kay Stokes joined his Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015. Wayne passed away at his home after a long struggle with congestive heart failure.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.

He was born on June 1, 1944, in Greenville, N.C., where he remained a lifelong resident. Wayne was a farmer his entire life and had a passion for all things farming; from riding his tractor, planting and harvesting various crops, collecting antique tractors and even visiting the farmer's market. However, nothing brought him more joy than seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of his grandchildren.

Wayne was a big hearted, kind and loving, generous man with a deep love for the Lord. He was an active and devoted member of Black Jack Original Free Will Baptist Church for over 45 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, W.K. and Kathleen Stokes and nephew, Robin Stokes.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Pugh Stokes; two children, daughter Vonda Stokes Harris and husband, Chris, and son Chris Stokes and wife, Stephanie, all of Greenville; six grandchildren, Cutler Harris, Conner Harris, Hannah Harris, Parker Stokes, Garrett Stokes and Stella Stokes, all of Greenville; brother, Bobby Stokes, and wife, Ruth, also of Greenville; brother-in-law, Sammy Pugh, and wife, Carol; sisters-in law, Judy Pugh and Phyllis Pugh Moore and husband Brinkley Moore; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home, and friends are always welcome at the home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Alison Cieszko, Dr. Jerry Simpson, Dr. Hassan Alhosaini, Heather Booth, Dave Snyder and all the staff at Vidant Cardiology.

The family would also like to say thank you to all his dear friends and family who took time to visit with him on a daily basis. He loved having visitors and appreciated each and every one of you.

Memorials may be made to Black Jack Original Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 2972 Black Jack-Simpson Road, Greenville, NC 27858. Online condolences at www.wilkersonfuneralhome.com

Linda and Chris and family. Praise the Lord for Wayne's home going. I know he is going to be missed - however, to think about him in heaven today with no more pain - we have a lot to live for by trusting the Lord so we can see Wayne again. If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know. Thanks for sharing Wayne with my family. Oh what memories. Linda, Will and George Willis
