WILMINGTON - Elmer L. Bailey, 86, Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
He was born June 14, 1925, in Fulton County to the late Oliver and Mabel (nee Stecher).
Elmer retired from General Motors following 31 years of employment. During his retirement he farmed in the Wilmington area.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. He was a charter member of the Wilmington VFW Post 5422, member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 241 in Wilmington, Meneoka Sportsman's Club and Will County Sheriff's Association. He enjoyed having coffee at McDonald's in Wilmington, working in his yard, collecting John Deere memorabilia and watches.
Surviving are three sisters, Naomi Tedrow of Fairfield, Iowa, Patsy (Charlie) Dilts of Ellisville and Vera Williamson of Monmouth; his partner, Jean Rancatore of Elwood; close friends Val Fox and Dennis Sartore of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Harriet (nee Barker) Bailey, four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 14, at R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes Ltd., Braidwood Chapel, with funeral at 7 p.m. The Rev. Dallas Henry will officiate. Visitation also will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, 771 N. Crafford, Bushnell. Interment with military honors will follow in Bushnell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the American Heart Association.
