Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Memorials may be left to Grace Lutheran Church or Grace Lutheran Cemetery. She was born Sept. 18, 1916, in Alpha, to Rhuben and Edna Peterson Rehn. She graduated from Oxford Township High School in Alpha in 1933 and married Paul H. Nelson on Sept. 6, 1936, in Ophiem. He died in 1998.
Evelyn was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem and was also a member of the former Oxford Home Bureau in Alpha. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth (Zack) Colt of Shell Knob, Mo., and Mary Ann (Mike) Cullen of Moline; two sons, James (Carol) Nelson of Naperville and David (Dede) Nelson of Geneseo; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband and one brother preceded her in death.
