Charles Pheiffer Obituary

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Charles "John" Pheiffer, Jr., 77, Davenport, died Friday, July 17, 2015, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday July 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., Davenport. Memorial visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road Davenport, with a Masonic service beginning at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the Shriners' Hospital for Children, Chicago.
John was born in 1938 in Galesburg, Illinis, to Charles and Pauline Pheiffer. A graduate of Alexis (Illinois) Community High School, he commenced his education at the American Institute of Commerce, Davenport, Chamber of Commerce Management, Boulder, Colorado, and School of Bank Marketing, Madison, Wisconsin. In 1958 he married Mary Voorhees; Sharri Stark in 1973; and Patricia Gustafson in 2005. He began his career as production scheduler for John Deere Planter Works, and served as manager of the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce. He then became vice president of Bank Business Development for several area banks and, since 1976, has owned and operated Pheiffer Realty.
John was a "natural salesman" who always loved the people that he dealt with. He always prided himself in helping all of his real estate contacts, and of course, he helped many more people through his tireless charitable efforts. John was as honest as old Abe Lincoln. If you ever spent time with John, you know how he could tell (even embellish) a story! In fact, sometimes you really didn't need to add much, John would do the whole thing himself. John was super passionate about his family, especially his grandchildren. Oh, and did you ever hear about his special camping adventures, or about his beautiful driving horses and his prized buggies? Or a thousand other interesting stories. What a guy; the moment you met him you knew he was special, and that you would never forget him.
He was particularly committed to his many church, civic and service organizations: Bettendorf Jaycees (past president JCI senator); Bettendorf and North Scott Rotary (past president and Paul Harris Fellow); Northwest Business Association (past president); Mississippi Valley Fair Board (past director and manager); Chicago Shrine Hospital (past member of the Board of Governors); Grand Lodge of Iowa Charity Funds (past Board of Trustees member); Iowa Scottish Rite Foundation (past board member); Brubaker Lodge 675 (past master); Iowa Memorial Lodge No. 2; Davenport Scottish Rite (Honorary 33 degree); Kaaba Shrine (past potentate); and past church deacon and elder.
Survivors include his wife Patricia; brothers Robert (Sue) Pheiffer of Springhill, Kansas, and Gary (Nancy) Pheiffer of E. Moline, Illinois; stepchildren Scott (Cindy) Stark of Belleville, Illinois, and Lavona (Rich) Kenney of Farmington, Illinois; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, his wife Sharri, and his parents.
