Evelyn M. Mills

KNOXVILLE - Evelyn M. Mills, 86, Knoxville, died Sunday, June 16, 2019, at her home in Knoxville.

She was born Dec. 26, 1932, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, the daughter of Oren and Vallie (Glidden) Carlson. She was raised and educated in the Galesburg area, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1950. On Sept. 12, 1954, Evelyn was married to Robert L. Mills at the East Main Congregational Church in Galesburg. They were married for over 60 years before Robert preceded her in death on July 20, 2015.

Left to cherish Evelyn's memory are her son, Steven (and Sandy) Mills of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Aaron Mills of Carrboro, North Carolina, and Cassie (and Dillon) Causey of Knoxville; six great-grandchildren, Jaxn Mills, Treyson Mills, Landon Mills, Caleb Mills, Lily Causey and Luke Causey; and one sibling, Jean Hamline of East Galesburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; and one brother.

Evelyn was a member of the Red Hat Society as well as the Oaks Senior Center, and was a former member of the Little John Conservation Club of Victoria. Pastimes she enjoyed included playing her keyboard, going fishing and playing cards, especially with her Monday card playing group. Most of all, Evelyn loved her family and being able to spend time with her loved ones. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019, at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home & Crematory in Knoxville. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home & Crematory in Knoxville, Rev. Don Williams officiating. Interment will be at the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Knoxville.
