James Howerton Obituary
He was born Jan. 27, 1935, in Naylor, Missouri, the son of Joseph Dan and Mildred M. Higgs Howerton. They preceded him in death.
James is survived by two brothers, Stanley (Linh) M. Howerton of Galesburg and Michael (Michelle) G. Howerton of Davenport, Iowa; one son, William Howerton of Tucson, Arizona; one daughter, Sharon Hawks of Rockford; and one granddaughter.
He grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1953. He entered the Army on Jan. 30, 1958, and was discharged on Jan. 12, 1960. He rejoined the Army on Oct. 29, 1961, and was discharged on Aug. 8, 1962. He was a self-employed carpenter and had lived in Blandinsville the past 10 years.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Pastor Danny Hunt will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
