John Lybarger Obituary

MONMOUTH - John W. 'Hop' Lybarger, age 58, Monmouth, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 9, 2008, at his residence. John was born Aug. 21, 1950, in Monmouth. He was the son of Louis Carrol and Maxine Norma Ross Lybarger. He was reared and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth public schools. He was married to Carol Ann Toops. Hop worked at Gale Products until its closing in 1982. He then owned and operated 'The Trading Post' north of Monmouth until 1989. Hop then attended heating and cooling school in Peoria and worked in the Peoria area for a time. Upon returning to Monmouth, Hop worked at Community Medical Center in the maintenance department. Lastly, he worked in Galesburg for the Knox County Council for the Developmentally Disabled as a plant superintendent. Hop enjoyed hunting and fishing and going to the Boat. He like spending time with his friends at 'Dannys.' He also enjoyed trips with KCCDD to Ely, Minn., to fish and camp. Hop also worked many side jobs with his brothers in the Monmouth area.

John is survived by one daughter, Heather Vanosdall and her husband Jeff of Woodhull; one son, Brent Lybarger and his wife Tori of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Bryant, Blake, Bailee, Brody, Blayde and Brooklynne Lybarger; his mother, Maxine Lybarger of Monmouth; four sisters, Barbara Brown and Lee of Decatur, Carol Cook and David of Monmouth, Jan Robbins and Gary of Biggsville and Judy Simpson and Lloyd Wall of Monmouth; and five brothers, Gary Lybarger and Connie of Monmouth, Larry Lybarger and Margaret of Colorado Springs, Colo., Donnie Lybarger and Robin of Monmouth, Vic Lybarger and Pam of Monmouth and David Lybarger and Rhonda of Monmouth.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Family will be present to receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral. A memorial fund is being established for the Knox County Developmentally Disabled.
