Mary Ruth Williams Obituary

MONMOUTH - Mary Ruth Williams, 84, Monmouth, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.
She was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Monmouth, the daughter of Carl J. and Inez G. Feagans Chapman. She attended Monmouth public schools and graduated from Monmouth High School. She attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Macomb, Galesburg Practical Nursing School and Carl Sandburg College.
She married Don E. Williams on Dec. 13, 1945, in Macomb. He preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1993.
Mary Ruth was employed 20 years as a nurse at Galesburg Research Hospital. She then was employed as a nurse for 13 more years at Community Memorial Hospital in Monmouth.
Mary Ruth was a former member of First Baptist Church and a member of Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth. She also was an active member and past president of J.W. Clendenin Post 2301 VFW Auxiliary and assisted with the Monmouth Share program at Jamieson Center.
She most enjoyed her family and home, traveling, crocheting and doing for and mentoring others in her life.
She is survived by four daughters, Cheryl A. Scott of Monmouth, Donna K. Godsil (Patrick) of Galesburg, Patricia G. Williams (Bob Bain) of Altona and Mary M. Jones (Tim) of Monmouth; two sons, Donald J. Williams (Connie) of Ammon, Idaho, and Michael E. Williams (Lora) of Galesburg; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wendell Chapman (Dixie) of Pembroke, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Gayle Roche; and one granddaughter, Kristen M. Neal.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 21, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Sunday at Turnbull Funeral Home. A memorial fund is being established for Rosewood Care Center of Galesburg or the auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2301.
