GALESBURG - Robert A. Snyder, 80, 1250 Maiden Lane, Galesburg, died at 3:03 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born May 5, 1930, in Woodhull, the son of Nyle D. and Lola J. Elliott Snyder. He married Dorothy E. Deem on May 1, 1952, in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, David J. Snyder of Galesburg and Robert D. (and Denice) Snyder of Watauga, Texas; two daughters, Linda E. (and Terry) Bond of Abingdon and Debra L. (and Terry) Lannholm of Galesburg; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, William (and Sandy) Snyder of Oneida; and a sister, Beverly J. (and J.K. "Dave") Powell of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert was a fireman and then an engineer for the C.B.&Q./Burlington Northern Railroad for 43 years, retiring October 1993. He graduated from Alexis High School. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Robert enjoyed fishing, R.V. traveling and gardening. He especially loved his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
He served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
