Robert Hellem Obituary
GALESBURG - Mr. Robert S. "Bob" Hellem, 85, Galesburg, died 11:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at Unity Point Methodist Hospital, Peoria.
He was born June 13, 1933, in Berthold, North Dakota, to Sever C. and Josie Johnson Hellem. He married Shirley J. Price Oct. 25, 1975. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Mark D. (Melinda) Gordon of Lafayette, Colorado; a daughter, Linda D. (Daniel) Searles of Marietta, Georgia; two sisters, Lila Roethel of Michigan and Helen (Dick) Arnseth of Moorhead, Minnesota; and four grandchildren, Megan, Melissa, and Kyle Gordon and Andrew Robert Searles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Vernon Hellem, Mahlon Hellem and Orlie J. Hellem.
Bob graduated from Northwood High School in Northwood, North Dakota, in 1951 and North Dakota State University-Fargo in 1955. He completed his master's degree from Arizona State University. He served in the United States Army. He was an engineer for Ford Motor Co., Rock Island Arsenal and Nomura in Rock Island for 40 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, where he was a member of the choir for many years. He was a member of the Galesburg Noon Kiwanis.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Galesburg. The Rev. Mary Runge will officiate. Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at the church. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Noon Kiwanis, Galesburg.
