Shirley Mecum Obituary
She was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Monmouth, Illinois, to the late Harry and Winifred Numbers. She was united in marriage to the late Edward L. Mecum Sr. on Dec. 26, 1951, and the two were married for 66 years until his passing on Dec. 9, 2017. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother and an avid collector of dolls.
She is survived by her sons, Edward (Jill Ballard) Mecum Jr., Dana (Patti) Mecum and Hubert Baker; grandchildren, Daniel, Benjamin (Cindy), Frank (Jennifer), Harry (Violet), Jennifer (Kevin), Dawn and Michael (Jen); great-grandchildren, Gabe, Levi, Nora June, Tenley, Tevin, Taden, Wyatt, Elsie, Charlie, Caroline, Gavin, Kayleigh, Chloe, Abigail and Michael; two brothers, James (Delores) Numbers and Larry Numbers; a sister, Sheryl (Jim) Pierce; many nieces and nephews; five brothers-in-law, Ben (June) Mecum, Jim (Marsha) Mecum, Roger (Dianna) Mecum, George Landon and Roy Truelson; and two sisters-in-law, Judy Buchanan and Shirley Anne (Raymond) Hastings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Winifred (nee English) Numbers; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thelbert and Lula Belle (Martin) Mecum; a sister, Sharon (Numbers) Woodard; infant brother, Orville Lee; a very special nephew, Michael Dean Numbers; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Landon and Dorothy Truelson; and two brothers-in-law, Frances Mecum and Gary Buchanan.
Graveside services will he held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth. Memorials may be made in Shirley's name to Curing Kids Cancer, P.O. Box 862123, Marietta, GA 30062. For more information, visit www.ToyntonFuneralHome.com or call (262) 275-2171.
