Betty Jane Wells
6/18/1929 - 1/1/2020
Another little piece of the dancing world has slipped away with the peaceful passing of Betty Jane Wells, 90. The last 7 months of her life was spent in the care of her son and his wife in Denair, Ca.
Betty was born in Barkhamsted, CT. The last surviving child of Harold P. Birden, a breeder of Devon and Shorthorn cattle. Betty is predeceased by the love of her life, Robert H. Wells, whom she met while he was home on leave from the Army, and later the Air Force. They married and spent the next 20 years stationed all around the U.S. and Europe. Upon retirement from the military they made their home in the Torrington area and settled down to raise their son, Robert.
Betty worked as a Loan Officer for the First Federal Savings and Loan, later becoming Webster Bank in Torrington, and retired after 20 years of service.
Betty was a dynamo of energy until she passed from this life. Always ready to organize a party or a get together for family and friends, where with her non-stop energy she got others hopping on board. She enjoyed magically decorating for the holidays. Going house to house spending time with neighbors in celebration.
Betty was a gifted Artist that left behind beautiful oil paintings to the delight of her family. She also enjoyed recaning and refinishing chairs restoring them to their natural beauty. Her energy on the dance floor was something to see. Betty spent her weekends out dancing with friends and to her favorite band, Harm's Way, through the age of 89, until she moved cross country to CA. to be with her family.
Betty had a lifelong love of sports, especially baseball, never missing a Boston Red Sox game. She was also a fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Betty is survived by her son Robert S. Wells, and his wife Linda. Two grandsons, Jeremiah and Joshua Wells, all of CA.
As we believe in the hope of heaven, our hope for today, is that Betty is dancing through the hallways of heaven with her husband and all the baseball greats.
We cordially invite you to share in the remembrance of Betty's life.

Who could not appreciate witnessing Betty´s zest for life! She was a dynamic example on how to "keep it going." We were able to enjoy many wonderful dances with Betty when The Chaparrals Band played. Betty is remembered dearly.
