Edmund Dery
Edmund Dery of Tega Cay, SC passed peacefully in his home from natural causes on July 30, 2021 at the age of 94.
Edmund (Ed) was born on November 7, 1926, as the son of Aldege and Leonie Robichaud Dery in New Britain, CT. He attended St. Mary's School, New Hartford, CT, and graduated in 1944 from Gilbert High School, Winsted, CT. He joined the Army Air Force in 1945, and at the end of WWII, he re-enlisted to spend a year in Germany in the occupation force as an airplane mechanic and a youth athletic instructor.
He received an Associates Degree in Marketing at Hillyer Junior College, Hartford, CT, and later received a BS degree at the University of Hartford, CT. He worked for the Torrington Needle Co. (later a division of Ingersoll-Rand Co), Torrington, CT as Project Engineer and General Foreman, semi-retiring in August 1981. He started an Accounting & Tax Preparation Company out of his home in New Hartford, CT until retirement in 2002. Edmund is survived by four children, Melina Marshall, Conway, SC; David Dery, New Hartford, CT; Leon Dery, Avon, CT; and Marian Cronin, Fort Mill, SC; 2 sisters-in-law; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Eleanor, who passed six months ago, four brothers, Roland, Raymond, Robert, and Donald.
In 2007, Ed and Ellie moved to Fort Mill, SC to and later to Tega Cay, SC. Our family is extremely grateful to the wonderful caring staff of Wellmore and the friends they made in South Carolina. We are thankful for the care Hospice provided for our parents during the last days and months of their lives. We also thank Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill for their services.
Edmund was a communicant of St Francis Church, Torrington, CT; The Immaculate Conception Church, New Hartford, CT; and St Philip Neri Catholic Church, Fort Mill, SC.
Ed enjoyed hiking, traveling, skiing, dancing and playing games. Ed and Ellie were part of their close knit "club" group of about six couples for decades. Ed was a self-taught musician, an avid reader and writer, publishing a few memoirs late in life. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor. He lived and loved life to the fullest and never met a stranger.
There will be no memorial service in South Carolina. A Mass will be said in Edmund's honor at St Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC on Wednesday, August 18 at 9:30am. For those who are not able to attend, it will be posted on the website: saintphilipneri.org.

On September 17 we will celebrating the life of Edmund Dery. At that same time we will also be celebrating the life of Eleanor (Maigret) Dery. Who passed away earlier this year. Although they were apart for six months, they will be laid to rest, together, for ever. They both lived a wonderful life. God bless them both, May they rest in piece.
