FRANCIS JOHNSON Obituary

JOHNSON, FRANCIS E. Francis E. Johnson, 98, of Colebrook, Connecticut, succumbed to cancer, surrounded by his family on January 1, 2015 at his home. He was the loving husband of Mildred “Millie” Johnson of 76 years. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. In addition to spending time with his family, Frank loved hunting, fishing and golf. He remained an avid golfer well into his 80’s. He retired from the State of Connecticut as a Highway Superintendent at the age of 55 and then began his second career as the Greens Superintendent at the Norfolk Country Club where he worked until he was 70. He enjoyed weekend and holiday family gatherings where he could share his wonderful sense of humor and stories about growing up in Winsted, the Depression, the floods, fishing, his hunting dogs, and hunting snowshoe hare, sea ducks and big bucks in Maine. Frank, “Gramp”, “Poppie” was always there as a husband, father, grandfather, and mentor; He was the best friend anyone could ever have. We will all miss him dearly. In addition to his wife, he leaves daughters, Sandra M. Wilson of Winsted and Linda F. Bagnall of Colebrook; grandchildren, Michael, Jay, and Eric Wilson, Jennifer Horr, Denise Gilbert, Christopher and Timothy Bagnall; numerous great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family; and close friends. A special thanks to the Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut and Montano-Shea Funeral Home of Winsted for their helpful care and support. The burial will be at the convenience of the family. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted has care of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Service of Connecticut at 65 Commercial Blvd. Torrington, CT 06790. So sorry to hear of the passing of Frank. He always had a kind word to share. I remember seeing him at the Colebrook store when I was only a little guy and he would always go out of his way to say hi. We will all miss him but have fond memories of the past. God Bless you all.
