It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Francis Joseph Martin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and dedicated public servant. Frank passed away peacefully on August 16th, in Stuart, Florida, at the age of 86. Born on June 24, 1939, in New Haven, Frank devoted his life to his family, his community, and his profession. He served with honor and distinction as a firefighter with the New Haven Fire Department, rising through the ranks to become a Battalion Chief. His career was marked by courage, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of others. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Martin, and their sons Chris Martin (wife Michelle Martin) and Matthew Martin (wife Deanne Martin). He was a proud grandfather to Alexandra Hallstrom (husband Brian Hallstrom), Kelly Dewitt (husband Gavin Dewitt), Bennett Martin, and Cale Martin. He was also a devoted great-grandfather to Wesley Hallstrom and Ames Dewitt. A man of deep kindness and love, Frank's greatest passion was caring for and supporting his family. He found joy in life's simple pleasures-especially a good round of golf-and will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and the deep love he showed to all who knew him. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 25th 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Hamden, followed by burial at Centerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association, ( www.alz.org ) or the New Haven Firefighters' Benevolent Association. Francis Joseph Martin's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and love him. He will be deeply missed.
