Mary Avitabile Obituary
Mrs. Avitabile was born in Torrington on May 22, 1923, daughter of the late Frederick and Mae (Chamberlain) Stengel and had been a lifelong Torrington resident. Dorothy was devoted to her family and had a special gift for culinary and decorative arts and created a warm and loving home for her family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter; Susan Avitabile Gula and son-in-law; Richard Walter Gula of Weston, Massachusetts, a grandson; Henry Frederic Gula of Santa Clara, California, two nieces and two nephews.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 23, at noon, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield. Burial in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington, will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect Street, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the George P. Avitabile Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Torrington High School, 50 Major Besse Drive, Torrington, CT 06790.
