Torrington >> Michael G. Audia, 84, of Torrington, CT, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Julia (Giramonti) Audia for 59 years.
Mr. Audia was born June 2, 1929, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Michael and Veronica (DeFranz) Audia. He served his country with the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the Torrington Company for 34 years as a set-up operator until his retirement. A past member of the Musicians Union, at the age of 14 he played Bass, joined his brothers in a band, and later was a member of the Deuces for many years. An avid woodworker he had workshop at home, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife Julia, he is survived by two sons, Michael Audia of Torrington, Christopher Audia of Joplin, Missouri; two daughters, Ann Marie Ritchie and her husband Caie of Winsted, Barbara Weingart of Torrington, a former son-in-law, Jim Weingart; one brother, Domenick Audia of Torrington; four grandchildren, Stefanie White, Patricia Weingart, Shannon Hilton, Joshua Hilton; three great grandchildren, Sonnie Rae Rand, Nicholas Moreno, Jr., Cole Moreno, as well as several nieces and nephews, and two lifelong friends, Seg Trivella and Carmen Indomenico. He was preceded in death by four siblings, John Audia, Salvatore (Sam) Audia, Angelina McLaughlin, and Frank Audia.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Road, Harwinton, CT. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at the Church. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors.
