RUJO MOORE Obituary

MOORE, RUJO Winsted: Rujo Moore, 90, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Valerie Manor Health Care Center in Torrington following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Shirley (Kolega) Moore. Born March 19, 1924, at the Litchfield County Hospital in Winsted, he was the son of the late Martha (Tiffany) and Frederick North Moore and had lived here all of his life. Rujo had attended local schools and graduated from The Gilbert School, Class of 1942. He also attained a diploma from International Correspondence School, certifying him as an electrical engineer. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, having served with Co. “D”, 350th Engineers Regiment, 1943-1946 in the China-Burma-India Theater and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. Rujo was proud of his service to his country. At every parade, he saluted the flag, no matter how many went by. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for Northeast Utilities for 38 years, retiring in 1984 as project coordinator. Rujo was an active member of the Winsted Fire Dept., Engine #3 for 25 years, and an honorary member since 1973; served on the Winchester Board of Selectmen for two years; 60+ years as a member and Past Master of Riverton Grange as well as a member of Mountain County Pomona and Connecticut State Grange; past President of the Hemlock Cemetery Assn; member of the Second Congregational Church, member of their choir for over 30 years and active on its building and grounds committee for 40 years. He was a member and past president of having acquired the distinction of being the first male president of this once women’s organization, the Auxiliary for Community Health, was a volunteer at Winsted Memorial Hospital and Winchester Historical Society where he was a past president and director. In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, he leaves three daughters, Susan Belle-Isle, Cynthia (Dan) Levine and Claudia (James) Helm; daughter-in-law, Mary Passini Moore; grandchildren, Tiffany (James) Wynn, Marcus (Heather) Moore and Abigail Helm; great-grandchildren, Juniper and Bernard Wynn and D.C.Y. Rujo Moore; also a sister, Evelyn Hawley. He was predeceased by sons, Eugene & Frederick Moore and son-in-law, Dennis Belle-Isle; brothers, Richard, J. Robert and David N. Moore; sisters, Athena Dickinson, Alfaretta Rowland, Ruby Washington and Marion Sleath. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Second Congregational Church (formerly the Church of Christ) 800 Main Street, Winsted. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Second Congregational Church or to the Winsted Fire Dept. Engine #3.
