Stephen T. Gogolya, 72, passed from this world on July 15, 2021 in Ft. Myers, FL. He was born in Torrington, CT to the late Helen and Stephen P. Gogolya. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Bonita Springs, FL, having relocated there in 1995 from CT.
He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician. He continued his engineering and business education at The University of Hartford, Porter School of Engineering Design, UCONN and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Steve was a design and project management engineer with Emhart Corp., Seitz-Tek Corp. and Consolidated Controls Corp. from 1974 to 1995. He was sales engineer for Dymax Corp. and Ellsworth Adhesive Systems in FL and GA, from 1995 to 2001 and was project engineer and technical purchasing manager for Techtron Corp./Moog Components Group in Naples, FL, from 2001 until his retirement in 2013.
Steve had many and varied interests -- cars -- especially the sports variety, which were a true passion (he even did some racing and met Paul Newman at Lime Rock in CT). He was a voracious reader, a golfer, a collector of vintage and antique cameras, coins, auto magazines and frog-themed decor of all descriptions.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister, Barbara Bruttomesso and her husband Roger of Naples, FL and Canton, CT, his niece Paula Bruttomesso of Canton, CT and nephew Tracey Bruttomesso of Bloomfield, CT. He also leaves his devoted longtime friends, David and Kathryn DeVaux of Torrington, CT and Yudith Fernandez of Naples, FL, who looked after him during his illness and who adopted his beloved African Grey parrot, Oogie. In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by his nephew , Roger (Rob) Bruttomesso, Jr.
Per Steve's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial services and burial will be private. Contributions in Steve's memory can be sent to the Harry Chapin Food Bank in Ft. Myers, FL at 3760 Fowler St., Ft. Myers, FL 33901 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
