Barry R. Flast

Barry Flast, 62, of Eugene OR. Passed away on November 20, 2013. Barry was born to Howard and Florence Flast in New York, NY on June 2nd,1950 and is survived by his wife, Mary; his brother, Robert; his nephews: Drew and Ben; and his niece, Lily. Barry was a musician of note in the San Francisco Bay Area. His 40 year career included touring and recording with Paul Stookey, Poco, Kingfish, Bob Weir, Jefferson Starship and Country Joe McDonald among many others.

As a songwriter, Barry's songs were recorded by Paul Stookey, of Peter Paul and Mary; Janis Joplin, Bob Weir, The Walkers and Ashling Cole. Barry won the Genesis Award for music in 1999 for his song "Sundown on the Forest" sung by Bob Weir.

A musical tribute was held for Barry on December 8th in Springfield.

Sad to hear the news about Barry - my condolences to you Mary. I had the privilege and pleasure of playing music with Barry now and again over the years from the Hampshire Lodge rock 'n' roll band to some SF club gigs in the 70's. Your music and spirit will live on!
