Cynthia Marie Omlid

1957 - 2017

On Saturday, July 29, Cyndi passed away peacefully at home after a brave four year battle with Multiple System Atrophy. She was born April 20, 1957 in Mundelein, IL to Arlene and Michael Olk. After growing up in Chicago (she often referred to herself as a tough kid from Chicago), Cyndi found her way to Eugene, OR where she met the great love of her life, Gary Omlid. Cyndi and Gary were married in 1992.

Cyndi had a successful career in banking working for Equitable Savings & Loan, Ben Franklin Savings & Loan, Bank of America, and Northwest Community Credit Union. The best part of work for Cyndi was mentoring the employees on her team.

Helping children was a consistent theme of Cyndi?s life. It led to her joining the Active 20-30 Club of Eugene. She had the distinction of being the first female member, and in breaking down that barrier she humorously gave as good as she got. Cyndi played a significant role in the Club, helping many children while creating many friendships; plus it was where she and Gary met.

Cyndi is survived by Gary; siblings Randy Olk, Greg Olk (Wanda), Mark Olk (Rhonda), Michael Olk (Robin), and sister Stephanie Johnson (Jim). Her sister Shelly and parents preceded her in death. Cyndi had a special place in her heart for her nephews, nieces, and the other children that thought of her as a surrogate aunt. She showed her love for these kids in many ways, including many gifts and platter meals.

There are so many things that will be reminders of Cyndi: if two was good, four was better; the perfect shade of red; gardening; devotion to her pets; pepsi; canning to share with others, including salsa production lines; and how Gary turned her in to a loyal Ducks fan. Most of all she will be remembered for her sharp wit and generosity toward others.

There will be a gathering on August 12th to raise a glass and toast Cyndi; 5-7pm at Oregon Electric Station. Contributions to Eugene Active 20-30 Foundation are suggested.

As they shared often in life, Gary shares their pet endearment one more time. Paraphrasing from Cyndi?s favorite movie Pride and Prejudice: ?I love you Mrs. Omlid!? - Your completely, perfectly and incandescently happy husband!
