The last time I visited with Dan, catching up on our respective journeys, he pulled over on his motorcycle when I was out for a walk and we had a long talk. Frequently when I see a cycle go by now, Dan comes to mind. I miss him and our long-standing friendship which began when he was a student at Eugene Bible College. I have always loved how when we saw each other occasionally over the years we could pick up the threads as though no time had lapsed. Dan was so genuine and thoughtful. I am so thankful to have known him!

I loved Dan because he was such a good friend to my husband, Glen. He called and stopped by often. I first met him at JC Penneys, where he was shopping for a belt to impress this new girl he was dating . He normally didn't wear belts with his blue jeans, he said and I helped him pick out something appropriate. In the future to differentiate him from other Dans my husband knew, I would say, “Oh, you mean Dan the belt man.” Later, I met the delightful, Julie and later she helped us sell our house. I got to know Dan better while he helped us build our new house. He seemed to have an insight into the person he was talking with at that moment and communicated on such a personal level. We are missing you greatly, my friend.

It is hard to wrap thoughts around the fact that my friend has been gone a year. My heart is heavy and I miss him greatly. I first met Dan, while we were both working out at the Oakway Fitness Center. We talked about hunting and the episodes he had in the Snake River Canyon. He told me he hunted deer at the base of the North Sister in the "early High Cascade Hunt, I mentioned that I would like to do that and the next September we drew our tags. We went to Scott Lake at the base of the trail head and Dan took off. It was 4 miles up the trail to camp in the trees. I arrived about 20 minutes after Dan and he said that he wasn't sure I could make it! We had a good laugh. While we were laying under the stars at night we talked about our lives and a new girl he was dating. He really like her, but was not sure she would have much to do with a "pool man"....she drove a Mercedes and he thought she was out of his league. Guess what folks? She liked him, too! We love you Jules.

Sometimes you know almost instantly when you meet someone that you are going to be friends. Dan and Julie were that kind of people. Dan was a great friend to me, he was there for me when I needed a hand or just lent an ear to listen.
He told me once that he really wasn't afraid to try anything or take on any project. He said, "What's the worst thing that can happen, you have to hire someone else to fix it?"
I didn't know it at the time but I think I was one of those projects. We had some laughs, some great rides together and a serious conversation or two.
He was smart, kind, compassionate, honest and tough, all the things you want and need in a true friend. I miss you my friend, but I know God will be your riding buddy until we get there. You have and will always be there in my thoughts and prayers.

Dan and I met when he needed a carpenter to help him build his house. As important as working together was for us, I'll always remember Dan as one of my best friends. We talked about everything. The value of his advice and insights and friendship is immeasurable. I loved Dan and miss him terribly.

I met Dan Huff nearly 7½ years ago. I worked with Julie and got to know them as we did things socially. Dan and Julie joined in some of my family holidays and many dinner parties. I could always count on Dan to build me a rip roaring fire in my fireplace if it was cold outside. We all liked to gather in the family room and enjoy being together and sharing stories.
Dan helped me do a few repairs around my house and I always trusted him to do a great job as he was as persnickety as I tend to be. He recently put a new cover on my patio and I will always think of him when I sit out there and enjoy a book, drink a glass of wine, or share the space with friends.
My favorite memory of Dan took place about a year ago when I was dumped by a man I had been seeing for a few months. Dan stopped what he was doing and we sat on the patio as he gave me counseling and encouragement. I could tell Dan anything and knew I could trust him.
I miss him so much but am so grateful to have met and known him. Spending time with Julie this past couple of weeks has really cemented our relationship and I know that we will stay friends as we both move forward in our lives.
My heart is heavy for his family who is left behind to grieve. Cherish your memories of this special man that you were so blessed to have in your lives. He will always be in your hearts and those memories of him will help to sustain you. God bless you all.

I came to know Dan through my wonderful friend Julie. He was so kind to me on so many occasions over the four years I knew him. I thought his obituary in the Register-Guard was beautiful. It so captured his love of Julie, his family, the outdoors and exploring the world on his motorcycle. I will always remember Dan's wonderful energy and enthusiasm, his generosity and his beautiful spirit.
He told fantastic stories (some of my favorites were about his former dogs), and he was just the best conversationalist. He was also so sweet and generous with his time. I will never forget how he dug a really proper grave for my cat Winnie when he died, in his back yard, even though it must have really hurt his back. And how he let a friend live in a trailer on his and Julie's property during his friend's hard times.
Best of all, though, he was my dear friend's loving husband. They are both such special people and I am so grateful they found each other in this life and shared so much of it together.
Jules, my heart will always be with you.

I got to know Dan when I went to visit my dear friend (since kindergarten!) Julie. Julie adored Dan, and I could see why. He was such a gracious and fun-loving host to me and my daughter, and was generous in letting us steal her away for a few days of touring.
On our last night, we talked about how they met, and how they loved Cris Issak concerts. When he mentioned he loved to dance, there we were cutting the rug in the living room!
I was so looking forward to seeing him again this summer. I am greatly saddened by his passing. It never seems fair that someone so loving, kind and full of life, can be gone so quickly.
My heartfelt sorrow goes out to his family and friends who will miss him terribly. May you somehow find peace in the memories, and let your tears release your sorrow.

Dan came into my life just a short time ago. He worked on my pool and helped me with handyman jobs needed around my house. Within that period of time he kept me laughing and smiling and shared many stories about his family. The last time I saw Dan he told me how proud he was of Josh and the path he had chosen as a career. He said he was grateful to Julie for her extra push to help Josh stay in school. He also told me how much it meant to him to text his daughter about beautiful sunsets, so they could share the beauty. Dan had such an easy smile and I am certain he touched many lives. He will be greatly missed. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy during this difficult time.

Rest well, my friend! May every good seed you ever planted in the lives of your family and friends, each investment you made in the stock of relationships with which God blessed you, go on bearing good fruit in many lives for many years and even generations to come. You were a life blessing to me, Dan'l, and though I will see you someday, I will for many days to come miss you dearly, and for the rest of my days remember gratefully the touch of God on my life through yours. Just like always, you made it to the top ahead of me.

Dan was a friend for many years. I am going to miss this guy so much. He helped me through many difficult situations. They may be family or pool related but he seemed to always know what to say. He would have a story to go with it so i could relate and have hope. I really think the world lost a true gift in Dan. He touched so many lives.

Dan was clearly beloved and well thought of, and if you have a relationship with your adult children, that includes motorcycle camping, you are obviously doing life right. I used to see Dan at Josh's shows, and I was always impressed, that he wasn't just somewhere talking about being proud of his kids, he was actually showing up and being proud. Later, he lived up the street from my family, we always had pleasant interactions with him, and I know he was thought of as a great guy in the neighborhood. Angelynn has always been a sweetheart, so altogether, what I know of his legacy is grand and admirable. The wind is always at his back now.

Always gracious and welcoming-whether a week or years since our last encounter. (Just like with Josh) I was always greeted with a smile. A wonderful man who may not have always understood, but was always loving and supportive. Gone too soon...I am so glad I was lucky enough to have known him. May God embrace the family and give you strength and peace during this difficult time. I know Dan will always be watching over you-smiling, supportive and proud...

As a kid I knew Dan Huff through Josh and Angelynn. Through the week I've dug through memory both recent and not so recent and every time I remembered this man who was strong, quite decisive, but always full of life and fun loving. It was too soon. You will be loved and missed forever, Dan. Rest in peace.

I knew Dan in the mid eights for just a few years at Christ Center , but the friendship was special. I talked with him in Oakridge restaurant in 2010 for just a short time and was glad to meet up with him once more. What a shock it was to hear about his going home at such a young age. Herlindia might remember me, but Joshua and Angelynn were pretty young. May God give you peace at this time. Mel

The world lost a great man today. Dan was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, and friend. Many people loved and cherished his sense of humor, his counseling, and his friendship. Dan lived life to the fullest, he loved adventures. I will always remember him saying, “Linda, quit being a planner, live outside the box, take a chance and be spontaneous.” Steve and I will miss Dan very much.
