He was the greatest teacher I ever had! He helped me learn history when I was having a difficult time made me want to attend his class instead of skipping!

I always enjoyed Floyd's love of the game when he served as Commissioner of the Eugene Mens' Senior Baseball League. Safe home, Floyd.

Floyd was a great team leader...He has left a indelible mark on my memory. I played baseball for him at Gaston all four years and was the shortstop in 1959.He had a way of getting everything you were capable of on the field. In his summation of my performance after my last game playing for him he wrote that I was the hardest working player he had ever coached.I have it framed in my den and those words will be with me always.
I went down to Eugene a few years before he passed away and we went to lunch and had a great time. He wrote me a letter afterwords telling me how much my visit had made to him....May Gods blessing be on him always.
Sincerely, Rich Stang 1959 graduate

I didn't have Mr. Ogden as a teacher, I knew him from waiting on him at Lou & Ev's. But my husband, Mike, did have Mr. Ogden as a coach (football and baseball). Mike's buddies from High School (class of '67) still get together regularly. A bunch were at our house the day the obit ran in the paper. Everyone was saddened by the news, and the stories began! He was such a gentleman. May you find comfort in the memories of him.

He was more than a history teacher and coach. . .he truly cared about the young people in his life. I felt his passion for the change he made in my personal experience being a student of his. Throughout my life I have been reminded of his endearing following of my friends, family and of course how he affected me. He is a hero in my mind.

I knew Floyd at the Eugene Moose Lodge. We played league pool and enjoyed an ocassional Guinness or good Irish Whiskey. But it wasn't all hard work, we did have some fun. Floyd was a fine Irish Gentleman.

Mr. Ogden was one of my favorite teachers @ WHS. He was firm, but fair. He was passionate about baseball and education. He always encouraged, and challenged yourself to do your best.
Prayers go to his family at this time of his passing.

I was just watching Jungle to Jungle with David Ogden Stiers and was telling my family about Mr Ogden --- some things just stick in your brain forever --- I googled his name and found out that his celebration of life is tomorrow. I have great memories of him teaching us all about History :). It makes me smile when I think about him. He will surely be missed. To his family and close friends, I am sorry for your loss.

I do have favorites and Floyd was one of them. Along with being a great coach he was an outstanding teacher and mentor. I've used and passed on so many of his sayings and stories that he should live on forever. Whenever his name is brought up it always brings smiles to the faces of everyone.

It's not often you find a person that very few, if any, have a bad word to say about them...except maybe a few umpires who are just now figuring out the intellectual slam he put on them after a bad call. It was a privilege to have played for him and a great honor to have known him. It's a big loss.

What an honor to have known Coach Odgen and be his Baseball statistician throughout my high school years. I always think of him when I watch a ball game. His love for the game, his family and to his 'kids' on the field will always have a special place in my heart. Coach... it's the bottom of the ninth and you've hit a Grand Slam. God Bless.

When I close my eyes, I can still see that twinkle in his eyes, still smell the pipe, and still see him barking out commands from the 3rd base coaching box. He was the smartest baseball coach I ever knew, molding strategy and psychology to come up with a winning formula. Always interesting, always entertaining, and always funny. He will be missed.

Mr. Ogden was the teacher who made me want to get A's. I'm not sure he thought I was a good influence on Terry but boy did we have fun. Several years after high school my husband and I met Mr. O eating his dinner at Louie's. He told us I had given him every grey hair he had. My husband still remembers meeting him and tells me I have given him every grey hair he has too.
My deepest sympathies,

Floyd was my teacher in high school. I remember his Kennedy history class very well and was truly one of the more interesting classes I had. I also knew his son Jim who was a class ahead of me who I considered a friend. My thoughts are with the family during this time.

Floyd was one of my favorite teachers but when I broke my arm in my senior year I tried to refuse to go the hospital so I wouldn't miss one of his tests. His classes were oddly entertaining.

Mr. Ogden always amazed me. He was the only teacher I had that could lecture for a hour and never have to refer to a book or paper, he was full of information. He made history at Willamette enjoyable. He will be missed. Thanks for the memories.

Floyd was such a delightful man. Watching him coach my son (and his grandson, Ian) in middle school was pure enjoyment. It was as if he had 15 grandsons on the team, he treated them all with such affection and dedication. I know that my son, and all the young people he coached and taught are better people for having had him in their lives. What a unique and special man. He will be missed.
