Gary Crabtree Obituary

Gary G.

Crabtree

Gary G. Crabtree, of Eugene, Oregon, died peacefully on January 21st, surrounded by family, friends, and his loving wife of 18 years. A fourth-generation Oregonian, Gary was born in Eugene on July 28, 1946. He was the son of the late Clifford and Renee Crabtree.

He graduated from Thurston High School before joining the Navy and serving in the Seabees Construction Battalion. Always the builder at heart, he spent the majority of his working days building and remodeling homes in and around Eugene, often with his sons, Mark and Greg, in tow. Throughout the rest of his career Gary would often reach out to the young adults in the family who were trying to find their way by giving them a job. To this end, many solid foundations were built on his mentorship and work ethic that included both discipline and love.

Gary was an avid fisherman and served as president of the Emerald Valley Bass Club during the 1980s. He spent many a day fishing with life-long friend and cousin, Lonnie Crabtree, including one memorable day in 1997 when they caught 100 bass at Crane Prairie Reservoir.

In 1998, Gary married Vicki Crabtree. Always a family man, Gary enjoyed spending time with the family that came into his life after they married: daughters, Kelly, Tarah, Deva; and son, Doug; their spouses; and five grandchildren: Hayden, Paris, Jack, Collin, and Bradley, all of whom survive him. Gary is also survived by his sister, Janet Johnston; sons: Mark and Greg; their spouses: Amanda and Deidre; grandson, Tyndall, and a granddaughter due in March of 2017. Finally, Sugar, his dog will miss curling up in Gary's lap for long afternoon naps. Gary was a friend of Bill W.

A service is scheduled for February 4th, 2017 at 11:00 at Majors Funeral Home in Springfield, Oregon, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gary's life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to 1210 Barber Drive, Eugene, Oregon 97405.

My thoughts and prayers are sent to Vicki and family. I remember Gary as a mans man...you always knew where you stood with him and I appreciated his straight forward style. He always had a smile and kind word for me, as I gained his friendship helping him with his vehicle service and tires. He will be missed...Rest In Peace My Friend
