Laura Cortez Obituary

Laura, 63, passed away on June 14, 2017 to her heavenly home with Christ. She was surrounded by her loved ones after a long courageous battle with cancer.
"Laura fought the good fight and kept her faith in Jesus Christ." Laura was born on July 20, 1953 in Eugene to John and Marlene Kitajchuk. She was the eldest of 3 daughters.
Laura was a performer in her early years, where she was a singer, model, aspiring actress, and lead vocalist for a band. Later in her professional career, she went onto helping others by working in the healthcare industry. She worked for several hospitals as an executive assistant to hospital administrators, ending her medical career working for the Lane County Sheriff's Department.
Laura enjoyed spending quality time with her best friend and husband Herman of 32 years. She faithfully attended church every Sunday, and devoted most of her time to living out her faith. She had a passion for movies, music, writing poetry and was an avid reader. Laura will be remembered as someone who was kind, gentle and caring. She was often described as selfless because she always put others first; even as she was nearing death. Laura modeled her own life after Christ and tried to share His love with others. She was a bright light in everyone's life. She had a positive impact on so many and she will be deeply missed.
Laura is survived by her husband Herman, son, Nathan, daughter in law, Michelle, her 2 sisters, Val and Marla, and her Family in Christ.
Memorial services will be in the Nativity of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church, 704 Aspen St. Springfield, OR on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10am. A reception will follow immediately after the mass service.

I will cherish a picture in my mind of a 7-year old blonde-haired little girl named Laura dressed in pink checkered pedal-pushers back in 1961 in Pasadena, California. I remember you lived on El Molino Street with your Mom & Dad. I was 13 years old and we moved into a house on Howard Street just down the street from you! As cousins we did lots of playing and my younger sisters and brother remember that time also. Laura was such a talented and beautiful child. In later years, I was impressed with Laura's singing abilities, as well as acting (just like Laura's father, our Uncle John). We have shared numerous family events and Laura was always smiling and happy. Laura was a beautiful
and thoughtful person and has impacted many lives - we will hold a special place in our hearts for a VERY SPECIAL LADY!!!!
Remembering is for the living and Herman, Nathan & Michelle, Valerie & Jenai and Brandon and families, Marla and Shaun - all the family of cousins support you and will always think of Laura with love and shall not forget her! We love each of you very much!
