Carol Martino Obituary

Carol A. Martino
Carol A. Martino, age 79, passed away unexpectedly, at her home, on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
A Christmas baby, Carol was born on December 25, 1945, in Waterbury, to the late Joseph and Elvira "Vera" (Bredice) Martino. She was a graduate of Crosby High School, and held a bachelor's degree from Southern CT State University and a master's degree from Central CT State University. She devoted her life to teaching children and was a 7th grade geography teacher at Kennedy School in Southington for 35 years. After her retirement, Carol continued to work as a teacher's aide for the Waterbury Public School System until 2020.
While Carol had no children of her own, her heart was full for them, whether it was for her students who became family or for children in need throughout the world. Generous with her time, care, and resources, Carol sponsored children in Haiti, Africa, and India. She loved animals and donated to many animal charities and rescues.
A voracious reader and a fan of British authors and television shows, Carol sat on the Library Board of Prospect and was an advocate for libraries everywhere. With her knowledge of geography as well as different world cultures, Carol traveled the world and befriended people from all backgrounds. A true patron of the arts, Carol enjoyed the symphony, opera, classical music, and theater. She loved to shop and had many beautiful and unique pieces of jewelry. Known for bringing people together, Carol organized social gatherings, whether they were college friends, fellow teachers, or childhood friends from Waterbury.
Carol is survived by her sister, Charlotte Martino of Prospect, with whom she made her home for the past 14 years, and her niece, Gianna Jackson of Los Angeles, CA. She also leaves many cousins and close friends who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph P. Martino.
Carol's funeral service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Bible Church, 240 Dwight St., Waterbury. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury. Memorial contributions in Carol's name may be made to two of her favorite charities: Heifer International at www.heifer.org or send to 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202; or to The Simon Foundation at www.thesimonfoundation.org or send to 120 Rescue Lane, Bloomfield, CT 06002. Yesterday

Dear Charlotte and family,
My family and I are truly sad for the loss of your dear sister. She, another friend and I had lunch Thursday, 10/16, we had a wonderful visit and planned to see each other again in the spring. I took a picture of them that day. I was shocked to hear of her passing three days later. May she Rest in Peace in God´s loving embrace. Sincere condolences from me and my family. Maria P.

Carol was a dear friend who immediately took me under her wing when I began as librarian at Kennedy. She recruited me as a carpool member and we commuted daily for many years with Glen Dunham.

I am so devasted that I cannot attend her memorial as I am taking care of my brother who is recovering from surgery here in Florida. I will be there in spirit.

I cannot imagine a world w/o Carol in it but I know she is in the arms of her lord.
