Cynthia Harunk Obituary

Cynthia Harunk
October 9, 2025
Cynthia C. (Chekas) Harunk, formerly of Wellesley, MA, and Middlebury, CT, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, after a long, natural progression of Early-Onset Dementia. She was 67 years old.
Cyndi grew up in Middlebury, CT. After attending Western New England and Franklin Pierce Universities, Cyndi moved to the Boston area, where she met Peter, her eventual husband of 37 years. She built a successful and fulfilling career, forming many enduring professional and personal relationships and thriving in both her work and social circles.
Those who knew Cyndi are aware of her love for animals, music, friends, family, and Martha's Vineyard. For over 30 years, there were always one or two large dogs in her home, whom she walked, talked to, and overfed to her heart's delight. Her love of dogs and horses extended to her daughter Brooke, with whom she shared a sacred mother-daughter bond. Music soothed her soul, and she never said no to attending concerts and other live performances-no matter the genre-especially during her recent trying times. She relished entertaining, celebrating, and spending time with friends and family, never needing an excuse to break out her fine china and crystal or to wear a new piece of Lilly Pulitzer clothing, which matched her colorful disposition and zest for life.
Cyndi is predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Martha Chekas, and her sister Valerie, all of Middlebury, CT. She leaves her husband, (Edward) "Peter" Harunk, Jr. of Norwood, MA; her daughter, (Valerie) "Brooke," and husband, Marcus Weimar, of Norton, MA; her sister, Stavroula Chekas, of Southbury, CT; her sister, Penny, and husband, Monty Ireland, of Waltham, MA; and numerous loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews, as well as many longtime friends and business associates. She had a heart of gold and will be missed by all.
Her family would like to thank the Massachusetts General Hospital FTD Unit for their early care, diagnosis, and guidance, and the staff of Beaumont at Natick Nursing Home and Salmon Hospice for their professional and unrelenting support, love, and care of Cyndi over the past 3½ years.
Services are private. Memorial donations in Cyndi's name may be made to the
