Edward Cattey Obituary

Edward Cattey
12/02/2025
Edward James Cattey, Age 87 of Litchfield Connecticut passed away peacefully at his home on December 2, 2025. Edward, known to many as "RED" was born in Torrington, Ct. on April 11, 1938 to the late Edward and Mildred (Spurr) Cattey of Campville. Edward graduated from the Oliver Wolcott Technical High School Class of 1956. Following graduation, Edward enlisted in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960. He was assigned to the Mobile Construction Battalion #6, Company D, known as the "Seabees". He was stationed as a Builder 2nd Class, at both U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay and later in Newfoundland during the Cold War.
Edward was married to Linda (Wootton) Cattey (also of Campville) for sixty-one years before she predeceased him in January. Together, they raised their three loving children in the home, which Edward himself built. Edward was a member of the local 210 carpenters' union and traveled the northeast, as general superintendent constructing commercial high-rise buildings.
Edward will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. In his spare time and after retirement, Edward pursued Pike on many bodies of water around New England and was known as the "Pike Patrol" by many on Bantam Lake where he assisted the D.E.P. in conducting biology studies. Edward was an original weekly contributor to "The Fisherman
Magazine" publications for almost four decades and wrote articles for Outdoor Life. He was always eager to show and tell the younger generation the art of hunting and fishing.
He leaves behind a daughter Robin Cattey, sons; Mark and wife Darcy Cattey, Michael Cattey and grandchildren Johnathon and Jennifer Cattey, Kayla Galitello and Charles Cattey. Edward also leaves his Brother Henry Cattey and Sister, Virginia Mills and several nieces and nephews. The family humbly sends thanks to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Litchfield County and the Winsted Office of Veterans Affairs entire staff for their compassion and care.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will take place in Harwinton with full Military honors in the Spring of 2026. In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be sent to the EAST Litchfield Volunteer Fire Company- Scholarship fund, 365 East Litchfield Road Litchfield Connecticut 06759. www.phalenfuneral.com
