OAKVILLE- Giuseppe "Joe" Guerrera, 90, of Oakville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Margaret (Campbell) Guerrera.
Joe was born October 13, 1934, in Pontelandolfo, Italy, to the late Rocco and Angelamaria (Daddona) Guerrera. Joe came to the United States in 1948, at the age of 13. Joe graduated from Leavenworth High School with first honors. He attended Waterbury State Tech, where he took advanced math classes to further his education. Joe was a Veteran, who served four years in the United States Air Force, two of them stationed in Japan. He was awarded Airman of the month, twice. Joe worked as a finished toolmaker for Anchor Fastners for many years. He designed and built the float for Anchor Fastners for the Waterbury Tricentennial in 1974. He retired from Pic Design in 2004. Joe was an avid bowler, who competed in many tournaments throughout his life and won the ABT bowling tournament at Milford Lanes. He enjoyed weightlifting and competed in many tournaments. He taught gymnastics and competed in competitions in Connecticut and New York. Joe loved his Dunkin Donuts coffee every morning after his workout at Score. He loved working with his hands, creating artwork and doing woodworking. He was a mathematician who enjoyed problem solving. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, who loved spending time with his family and friends.
Besides his wife, Joe is survived by his son, Joseph M. Guerrera; his sister, Nicolina Guerrera; and his grandchildren, Sophia Guerrera and Nicholas Guerrera, all from Watertown; along with several nieces nephews and friends. Joe was pre-deceased by his brother, Antonio Guerrera.
The Guerrera family would like to thank the VNA of Watertown, Dr. Grant at the Harold Leever Reginal Cancer Center, Dr. Flanagan and Vitas Hospice of Middlebury, and the VA Hospital for their compassionate and dedicated care.
Burial is private, per Joe's request, and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hickcox Funeral Home.
